Daily Junction on any phone
Three ways to read Daily Junction on mobile — the responsive desktop site (this one), the mobiWeb portal at dailyjunction.mobi, and the packaged KaiOS apps for feature phones. Free, all of it.

Daily Junction on any phone
The main site — the one you're reading now — is already responsive across every screen size, so a modern smartphone gets a first-class experience without any special setup. But not every visitor is on a modern smartphone with a fast data plan, and that's why Daily Junction runs three more editions built for the phones the main site can't reach.
Every edition reads the same corpus of stories, so a new article published here appears on .mobi and inside the KaiOS apps automatically — no manual mirroring, no drift.
1. dailyjunction.mobi — the mobiWeb portal
Built to the W3C mobileOK 1.0 spec and served as application/xhtml+xml — the way .mobi domains had to be built when the top-level domain launched. Every page:
- fits under 20 KB on the wire (home ≈ 6 KB, longest article ≈ 14 KB),
- ships zero JavaScript, zero cookies, zero third-party requests,
- validates as XHTML Mobile Profile 1.0 — so a Nokia 8110 4G, a Symbian S60, a JioPhone, Opera Mini or UC Mini render it cleanly,
- includes a WML 1.3 fallback for anything older that still speaks the WAP 2.0 protocol.
It's not just news either — it's a proper google.mobi-era portal:
- News — every article on the main site, paginated for narrow screens, with adjacent-article navigation
- TV Guide with real-time now/next EPG for 200+ free live channels
- Weather — 5-day forecast, 13 preset world cities plus free-text geocode
- Horoscopes for all 12 signs, refreshed daily
- Wikipedia on-this-day + featured article of the day
- Currency converter with live FX rates for 16 currencies
- Calculator — self-contained, works without JS
- Search across the whole DJ corpus
If your connection is patchy or you're paying by the megabyte, this is the edition to bookmark.
2. KaiOS apps — DJ Now, DJ Play, DJ Arcade
Purpose-built packaged apps for JioPhone, Nokia 8110 4G, MTN Smart T, Vodafone Smart Kicka and every other KaiOS handset — the phones people in India, Nigeria, Kenya, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Pakistan, South Africa and dozens of other markets rely on for daily news and TV.
All three apps together are under 55 KB packaged:
- DJ Now (18 KB) — the news reader, pulls headlines and article
bodies from
dailyjunction.mobiover the wire, works offline once visited. - DJ Play (15 KB) — 12 free live TV channels (Al Jazeera English, France 24, DW, NASA TV, NHK, Bloomberg Q, CBC, Reuters, ABC AU, CGTN, TRT World, WION), native HLS playback on KaiOS 3.0+.
- DJ Arcade (20 KB) — bite-sized quizzes and text puzzles, playable offline, refreshed weekly.
Each app is available two ways:
- PWA install — open the app on a KaiOS 3.0+ device (or any modern browser), tap "Add to Home Screen" and it installs like any native app. Service worker keeps the shell offline.
- Packaged
.zip— download and install via the KaiStore or the KaiOS WebIDE (Ctrl-D→ install from folder). Works on KaiOS 2.5 onwards.
The install hub auto-detects your device: if you land on it from a KaiOS phone, you get a one-tap "Install DJ Now" banner localised to your browser language (English, Hindi, Bengali, Bahasa, Kiswahili or Português).
3. Native Android APKs
If you're on a Play Services Android phone and want the full experience — live chat, comments, favourites, multiplayer arcade — the Android APKs are the fastest way in. Direct downloads, signed with the DJ publisher key, SHA-256 published on every release page. Android 7.0 or newer.
